Short introduction

upgrass16_sm.jpg, 7KB In a long-term project an aircraft is to be developed which can land and take-off without special runways. In the first phase of this project a new concept of tailless glider is being investigated. It is based on the bird layout for aerodynamic stability and uses a control method as used by birds.
A radio-controlled model has demonstrated good flight properties. An extensive theoretical investigation has revealed an efficiency benefit achievable by implementing the birds control method. Above all, the first full-scale prototype has demonstrated, in flight tests, that the concept works very well and indeed holds great potential. At present the next full-scale prototype is being developed for further investigation. It is called Exulans II.
